Its time to be at Camp, what are you still doing here? All the fun is happening at Horley Scout Centre. You best get yourself there or you will miss it!
CPCW (County Patrol Camping Weekend) is a County based camping competition for Young People in Scouting in Oxfordshire who are currently in a Scout Section. To be a Young Person participant this year, you will need to be between the ages of 10.5 years and 14 years old.
You will be camping from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon without your Scout Leader and being 'scored' the whole weekend!
CPCW (County Patrol Camping Weekend) was started over 25 years ago by our previous UK Commissioner, Tim Kidd who had the idea to start a competition to test the skills, knowledge and capability of Young People in Scout Sections across the Oxfordshire County. It is now an event that other Counties in the UK have adopted for themselves and is run as an Annual Event.
Have you got what it takes? Can you enter a Patrol to be the very best and beat the rest? Has your Patrol got the skills, knowledge and teamwork to score high and take home the trophy for 'Best Patrol' 2026?
CPCW lets Young People in and around Oxfordshire demonstrate their talent while learning some new skills and meeting other Scouts.
As with all Scouting, the experience of camping and skills of your Patrol is fully inclusive. We don't mind if your Patrol has never camped before or if your Patrol have been camping together since Cubs, CPCW is open to everyone! Patrols will be in a monitored Zone with Zone Leaders to keep an eye on all of the Patrols and to help and advise where needed and if needed.
If you cannot find an answer to your question, please contact us via the bottom of this page.
This year we have decided to continue withchoose, after some time away from the program, CPCW has got Talent.
This is an opportunity for individuals or Patrols to show off their skills or talent in whichever format they chose to everyone at CPCW.
So if you can play a musical instrument, ride a unicycle, balance a kangaroo on your nose, play out a wickedly funny comedy sketch or something else just as bonkers, this is the competition.
Zone Leaders will have a smaller competition on their zone on Saturday afternoon and then the winner/s of the zones will go forward to the Saturday Night Campfire circle final, to battle it out to find out who will be 'CPCW's got Talent' 2026.
Please make sure that you bring any equipment or instruments that you might need with you and if you want to keep them safe until you need them, check them in when your Patrol is checking in for the event on Friday evening and we promise to keep them safe until you need them or are ready to take them home.
Patrols will have an area of 8m in length x 8m in width to pitch all of their tents and their shelters. When selecting tents and shelters, Patrols should take into consideration the area assigned to them and only bring equipment that can fit into this area. There will not be any extra space allocated and Patrols that cannot pitch in the designated area for their Patrol will loose points in scoring by the Zone Teams.
The event will open its gates from 6pm on Friday 2nd October 2026 for Scouts to arrive. Patrols should arrive and registered at Event Control from 6pm onwards and should register as a COMPLETE Patrol and ONLY when EVERYONE in the Patrol is present. We ask Leaders to put the emphasis on the Scouts to make travel arrangements between them so as to ensure that they arrive at the same time; share the distribution of kit needed for the event and of course, share the cost of the their food for the event (a list of food items will be provided via the website to which the Scouts must devise their menu for the cooking competition event and bring this food with them to the camp).
Collection by Parents / Carers on Sunday 4th October 2026 will be from 2:30pm in time for our awards ceremony at 3pm, departing from around 3.30pm.
We ask Parents / Carers and Leaders to share responsibility for getting the Scouts to the event as much as possible so as to help us manage the smallest number of vehicle movements to and from the site. We would like to minimalise the impact on the site and the surrounding areas as much as possible.
Here are the key changes you need to know about for 2026:
Returning features:
Easy. Go to the event staff tab at the top of this page and navigate through to the Event Registration Page to register as event staff.
This year we have decided to open the event to Patrols wishing to join from outside the County. To do this, you will need to contact us direct first by email and we will edit our registration system to allow your specification District and Section to be added (it's so we don't have to enter every District and Section in the Country).
As soon as you have emailed us your request and the number of Patrols that you will be committing to the event, this will secure your place on the Event.
Our email address is cpcw@oxonscouting.org.uk We would love to welcome Patrols from outside the Oxfordshire County for this growing and exciting event.
That's an easy one, simply drop us an email with your question to
cpcw@oxonscouting.org.uk and we will do our utmost to get back to you with an answer within 48 hours.
CPCW 2026 will cost £50 per Young Person in a Patrol and this includes Friday evening's BBQ, all infrastructure, site fees and fantastic activities but excludes all other food needed for the event.
This event is specifically for and targeted at Young People of Scout Section age. Therefore we ask that all Young People attending in a Patrol are to be of Scout Section Age, (over 10.5 years old and under 14 years old when the event starts). For 2024, if you are over 14 years old at the start of the event, your details will be stopped from being added to the event system for registration.
As an Event, we have to plan and commit to certain costs and suppliers to put on the event and make it as amazing as possible for the Young People that attend.
With this in mind, the numbers that you have committed too as a Patrol, Section and Group is what you will be charged for. If you have Young People drop out after Registration closes on 18/09/26, you will be responsible for this cost at full price of £50 per person and it will be your responsibility to replace this person before Admin Closes on 25/09/26.
We cannot refund places not taken up for the event after Registration has closed.
That's great and we really do need your help to make our event a success. Any Scouts who have attended the event and would like to come back as Explorer Scouts and help put the event on in 2026 are more than welcome. You just need to register for the event as STAFF through www.woggle-events.co.uk and make sure you select the 'Explorer Scout' title from the drop down box when prompted. We would love to have you back and help us in 2026!
We have an Explorer area set aside on the camp site and we have an Adult Leader on the Team dedicated just to making the Explorer experience as rewarding as possible. As an Explorer Scout at our event, we will be asking you to help with activities, marshalling and demonstrating as well as leading by example to the Scouts that are attending the event. If you have previous CPCW experience, then you will know how having someone to look up to or help, a friendly face showing you how to do something can be a real help.
So if you would like to be part of our event team as an Explorer Scout, press the registration button above or visit https://www.woggle-events.co.uk, register for the event then press the REGISTER TO HELP button and select EXPLORER. Make sure you identify yourself when prompted or asked that you are an EXPLORER SCOUT and we will be in touch!
And thanks for giving your time up to help other people. We promise you will have some fun too along the way!
We are trying our best to give everyone a fair opportunity to attend our event and we will consider all circumstances in writing should you be looking to register a further Patrol.
Please email us at cpcw@oxonscouting.org.uk with details of why you missed the event registration, your Group Name, how many Patrols you would like to enter and how many YP this includes. We won't make any promises, but we will always try our best to be as inclusive to all as we can.
You sure can. Our booking system is designed to be flexible and user friendly for our Leaders right up to the event and beyond.
Not sure on final numbers or names, register now with basic information and change things later. Just be sure on numbers as best you can! We want to plan the event on the right number of YP as best we can, so drop-outs would be a problem and you need to keep to the minimum of 4 YP per Patrol and a maximum of 7 YP.
We have heard this a lot from Leaders this year, based on the fact that our Young People have not had the past three years experience in camping etc that they would have had coming through Cubs for example.
Don't worry, this is NOT a reason NOT to send your Scouts. We have set up the Camp this year to accommodate this and provide all the Young People there with the support and opportunity to learn the skills they need to come away from this Camp knowing more and being more skilled than when they left! So let your Scouts show you what they can achieve and let them find their boundaries in this controlled and safe environment. They will surprise us all.
Absolutely not. As with all Scouting, this camp is fully inclusive and open to all abilities and experiences. All we ask is that you are of Scout age on the 1st October 2026. When you register a Patrol as a Section Leader, you will be asked to give your opinion on the skill and camping knowledge of the Patrol, just to give our event staff and Zone Leaders a little bit of information before all the Scouts arrive at the camp.
its a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7 Young People in a Patrol. This can be a mix of boys and girls, or just boys or just girls. This is up to you as long as you stick to the minimum and maximum numbers.
You sure can, our registration website is designed to allow you full access to make all sorts of changes to your Patrols right up to our Admin closing on the 01/10/24. We are trying to make things as flexible as possible and make it easier for Section Leaders to keep all their Patrol info in one place, track parent involvement on forms and permissions etc. Check out the Event Schedule on this page for more info on the timelines etc.
If you are a Scout Section Leader and you have never been to CPCW before or sent your Scouts to this event and would like to get a feel of the camp for future experience; then why not come along and volunteer as part of our STAFF TEAM. Registration for STAFF is via the same registration button above, select the REGISTER TO HELP button and choose 'STAFF', you will need your membership and DBS numbers to register. Simple as that and we will be in touch.
Otherwise, the event is a Leader-less zone apart for drop off and collection of equipment, but that's a worse case scenario for you.
Yes, to qualify a Patrol for the event, each Group has to agree to supply an adult with a Scouting DBS to help with the event for the WHOLE of the weekend please. It helps us keep costs down and the event running smoothly.
We will be issuing a kit list for the event soon, but generally speaking, they will need to provide their own tents, cooking equipment, tables and benches, dining shelter and personal equipment to get them through a weekend of camping. Simple as that really. We provide the location, the fun and the fact that we know your Scouts will want to be coming back next year for sure!
After the success of the event in previous years, we are looking forward to build on the experience, skills and knowledge of the Young People from our County and beyond to make 2026 even better. We always hate to hear Leaders saying that they are worried about entering their Young People for this Event this year as they have little or NO experience to enter a competition. Although we remain a competition and there is a competition element to the Event, 2026 is about LEARNING NEW and BUILDING on existing skills that are at the CORE of Scouting in our County. As an Event Team we fully appreciate the concerns of all Leaders sending their Young People and have purposely modelled the activities and competition element to allow for this. So we look forward this year to welcoming returning Patrols and individuals, but also those that are new to CPCW and have heard all about from last year. All the Young People ready to step up and face all the new exciting and thrilling challenges of this camp and its competitions for 2026.
So rather than NOT send your Scout Patrol to this Event, as you think they aren't suitable or experienced enough; trust in our experienced and knowledgeable Zone Leaders, our hand-picked activity Leader Team with 'ooodddles' of skills they want to teach Young People and let your Scouts come away from this event with a greater skill base than when they arrived, having had so much fun with other Scouts from around the County and you might just be surprised at how these Young People can show us all what they are made of.
We will be issuing Leader Programme Guides for the weeks directly after returning from Summer Holidays to help you as Leaders programme your weeks and practice with your Patrols as we lead up to the Event. We will do all the hard work for you.
We are ready for NO-Experience through to Seasoned Pro's, it's the taking part that matters and we are here to assist your Young People all the way in this Event!

We love a good party here at CPCW. First night is Party night and it is a great chance to meet all your old friends and make some new friends too. Top tunes, top lighting effects and a the chance to PARTY until late on the first night with a BBQ in the mix too.

See others light fires and wondered how theirs always gets theirs started and burning better than yours. Come prepared as we will show you the real basics of fire-lighting and making sure your fire has all the best chances of keeping you warm and fed when on camp.

This will be one of the main focuses for the camp, drawing upon what we feel is a core scouting skill for our Young People in the County. If you can't cook on an altar camp fire before this event, we will make sure you know everything you need to be a pro by the end.

Its time to see who is 'Best in County for Air Rifle Shooting'. Using paper targets, in your Patrols, shoot for fun and see how much your Patrol can score. The best Patrols and the Best Individuals will then go 'head to head' to see who can win the title of County Champions 2026.

Fancy whittling a woggle from wood in whatever design you like. We will show you the basic skills of how to whittle a basic woggle and we will leave the rest to your imagination.

We think Patrol Tents are like marmite, you either love them or you hate them! Either which way, we will be testing each Patrols capability to pitch and pack away a Patrol tent in the quickest possible time to the highest possible standard. Its not as easy as you might think!

Patrols entering this year will have a chance to have ago at Archery on site and then there will be a Patrol and Individual County Competition. Thanks Horley Scout Centre for your help with this!

We all have cameras on our phones nowadays. We will be setting a strict criteria for the photography competition for our Patrols to ensure they get the best shot at this!

There are four climbing stations and you need to pick your four best climbers in your team to scale the mobile climbing wall in the quickest time. You will all start at the same time and that is when the clock will start and the clock will stop when the last climber hits the claxon button at the top. This is about picking the right people for the right climb and working as a team to get to the top the quickest!

It's a classic. This isn't all about strength you know. Technique and Teamwork play a massive role in being successful at Tug of War. Has you Patrol got what it takes to take this challenge on?

Patrols will be expected to use their imagination and their knot skills to make a pioneered object or piece of equipment in this competition that focuses on core scouting skills. Team work, imagination and so luck will be needed for this competition.

This traditional Oxfordshire game takes skill and good eye / hand coordination. Patrols will battle it out to see who has got what it takes to be top Dolly!
